Despite the reduced blog frequency in 2010, today I have done a major upgrade of the b2evolution blog software. From version 3.3.3 (2009-12-15)  towards version 4.0.3 (2010-12-24), currently the first stable version since 3.3.3.

The main reason for the upgrade is the new additions to make spam cleaning a breeze with one click actions. Comment spam is a global web epidemic. It is not specific to b2evolution, not even to blog engines. Just like email, any site that lets users post content freely is subject to spam these days. At this time, spam is being posted by real people hired at very low wages in India, Pakistan, Philippines, China and other countries offering cheap labor and decent internet connections. Therefore most automated spam fighting techniques based on detecting humans vs. robots no longer work. The best approach at this time seems to make it much faster for you to remove spam than for people to post spam. This is already the case with this version of b2evolution.

De vzw Het kolenspoor heeft zijn thuisbasis op de geklasseerde stationssite van As, tevens toegangspoort tot het Nationaal Park De Hoge Kempen, vanwaar zij het traject Waterschei-As-Eisden toeristisch uitbaat. Het kolenspoor beschikt over drie passagiersrijtuigen, een buffetrijtuig, een restaurantrijtuig, auditoriumrijtuig, fietsenshuttle en slaaprijtuig, en last but not least de minitrein.

Wij hebben vandaag genoten van een unieke combinatie, namelijk de 'Minitrein (Smalspoor for kids) met ranger' formule. Voor een luttele 2 EUR per persoon hebben we 2 uur lang genoten. Na een gezellig treinritje nam de ranger de kinderen mee gedurende een anderhalf uur durende ontdekkingstocht doorheen het Nationaal Park De Hoge Kempen.

Het miniatuurtreintje spoort op het 1300 m lange smalspoortraject (spoorbreedte 38cm) en brengt u langsheen de uitkijktoren (een replica van een originele boortoren waarmee André Dumont de Kempische steenkool in As ontdekte), een halte in het bos met aansluiting op wandelpaden van het Nationaal Park De Hoge Kempen, de geologische wand en het speelbos!
