Nokia Internet Tablet - N810 (part 6)
April 28th, 2008In order finally to make use of the integrated built-in GPS receiver of the N810, the maps are for free available for download, I needed 3 more things:
* the Nokia HH-12 Easy Mount Holder
* the Nokia DC-4 car charger
* license code for the Wayfinder Navigator for Nokia Internet Tablet

In fact, the N810 came with some kind of car holder, the Nokia CR 89 which could be fixed to the dashbord itself, but in fact the HH-12 is required in order not to damage your dashbord. I bought it today via Ebay, the easiest and cheapast way, isn't it ?!
For the 'voice guidance' I will have to buy an extra license code from 'Wayfinder', the Wayfinder Navigator Nokia N810 Edition. The price for the license depends on the region and duration (1 month (9.98 EUR), 1 year (89.00 EUR) of 3 years (98.99)).
The product region I am interested in, includes a licence to use voice guided turn-by-turn navigation in the following map regions:
- UK & Ireland
- Germany & Alps (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)
- Scandinavia (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway)
- Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg)
- France
- Italy
- Spain and Portugal
After purchasing the product you will get a license key to unlock the navigation features of the map application. If you make the purchase directly from the internet tablet the key is entered automatically.
First I will try the Wayfinder Navigator for 7 days free of charge, just enough to test the built-in GPS quality (some people complain about the long time to fix) and the provided software functionality. If this test periode gives a positive result, I will buy the 36 months license !
b2evolution upgrade
April 28th, 2008Today I have done an minor upgrade of the b2evolution blog software, from version 2.4.1 alias "Nevada" towards version 2.4.2 alias "Palms", a so called maintenance (or bug-fix) release.
b2evolution upgrade (part 2)
April 2nd, 2008The upgrade of the b2evolution software towards the new 2.x branch had the following consequence, an mandatory skin change was required. The skin layout of my blog didn't change much since July 2005, so it's a nice opportunity to start from something new, something fresh.
The coming weeks I plan to do some skin layout adaptations to personalize my skin a bit, on the other hand it's important to keep it as generic as possible, since this will make migrations much easier in the future.

b2evolution upgrade
April 1st, 2008Tonight I have done a significant upgrade of the b2evolution blog software, from version 1.10.3 (2007-11-01) alias "Key West", currently in status stable/old towards version 2.4.1 (2008-03-16) alias "Nevada", currently the first 2.x version in status stable.
The b2evolution 2.x versions come with a brand new backoffice design, come with enhanced configuration options, come with lots of bug fixes & improvements, ...
By the way, from the 1st of May 2008, the 1.10.x branch will not be further maintained !
In fact, I was well prepared. In stead of jumping directly into the water, I performed a complete migration cycle in advance on a 'test' environment. The test environment was setup using VMware server, in which I installed the currently beta version of Ubuntu Linux 8.04. Besides the fact that this process reflects some kind of 'professional behaviour' it results in 'confidence' and 'maturity', isn't it ;-).
For those interested, both VMware server and Ubuntu Linux are free.
During this upgrade I was listening to ... (see next page).
