Nokia Internet Tablet - N800
The Nokia N800 Internet Tablet, the successor of the beautifull (but sometimes slow) Nokia 770 Internet Tablet, is announced on Monday January 8th at CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, and immediately afterwards available for sale !

From my point of view it's great what Nokia has accomplished in 2006 ! The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet is used by myself on a daily basis, I really like this kind of device. In my case, there is no question on what to do next, ... I will start looking for a new 'home' for my dear old friend, the Nokia 770. From the moment onwards this is accomplished I will go for the new N800. Furthermore, since the N800 will be based on the next Maemo 3.x platform, and since the OS 2007 will not be ported towards the 770 anymore, there is no way back in fact !
Discussions about disappointed users of the 770 are popping up, but sometimes companies have to take 'drastic' decisions in order to move onwards, to move further, ... for sure this will be the case with this new kind of internet devices ! On the long run, it's anyhow better for the end user. However, I still believe that Nokia will still plan a number of software upgrades based on the Maemo 2.x platform for the Nokia 770, since the product is not that old yet, since there is no reason not to fix bugs in the Maemo 2.x branch, since a lot of customers will use the 770 the coming years, ...
By the way, on CES there was also an important announcement about the introduction of Skype on the Nokia N800. A first software release is to be expected to be made available for download by the end of first half of 2007.
Having both, and Google Talk, and Skype, for making VoIP calls is in fact the best of two worlds combined ! I am really looking forward ...
