Nokia Internet Tablet - 770 (Part 10)
People who are familiar with Linux distributions like Debian or Ubuntu know already the terminology : repositories.
In the OS 2006 software edition of the Nokia 770, a real application management system is introduced in order to install, uninstall and maintain (meaning 'keep up to date') applications, using so called Application Repositories.
Making use of repositories (containers holding a number of applications provided by the repository owner) is a 'smart' way of installing applications, for the following reasons : you will get up-to-date versions (and the system will be able to check for updates), and you will not have to track dependencies manually. Dependencies means that some applications require other sofware packages in order to behave correctly.
At this moment, it's not yet clear to me how 'apt' manages dependency conflicts with any of the repositories ? We will see how this evolves in the future.
