Blackberry USB driver - Charging via USB
Normally, I don't need to charge my Blackberry 8707v during the weekend, one fully charged battery is sufficient. That's why I always keep my power cable in the office. This weekend however, I received more calls then usual resulting in an empty battery Sunday late afternoon.

After searching on the Internet for a while, I found the perfect solution by installing the Research In Motion driver update for BlackBerry Device. After installation, simply connect the Blackberry with USB to your desktop PC or laptop. Nice & easy !
No need to install the full Desktop Manager, no sync is necessary since email and agenda are allways synced :-) !
A short description how to obtain and install this USB driver:
* Browse to Microsoft Update Catalogus
* Search for: Research In Motion BlackBerry Device
* Click on Add
* Click on Go to Download Basket
* Select the download location with Browse... and click on Download Now
* For example just create a temporary folder on your desktop
* Save a folder called "Research In Motion driver update for BlackBerry Device"
* Inside this folder will be a file called something like X86-ar_zh-tw_cs_da_de_el_en_es_fi_fr_he_hu_it_ja_ko_nl_no_pl_pt-br_ru_sv_tr_zh-cn_pt-13456806_3951c7b8446f3bd279e5f518d94b552dc1f40101.cab
* Double click (unpack) the downloaded driver (.cab file) and extract the 3 files back into your temporary folder on your harddisk
* You will get RimUsb, rimusbnt and RimUsbNT, RimUsbNT should look like a notepad page with a cog on it, right click this file and select install
* Connect the Blackberry device via the USB to your desktop PC or laptop
* Install the downloaded driver, follow the instructions on your screen
Afterwards, you will recognize the 'charge' icon on your Blackberry !

Trying to figure out how the software/drivers functions...didnt know they could be used to regulate the power supplied to a USB port.
Unless the message, "not enough power" is just a ruse.
The blackberry site has another method...using the CD, in the Custom Installation mode.
Sorry, am unable to post the URL. You can search for - "Install the USB drivers for the BlackBerry Handheld Manager or BlackBerry Device Manager"
There are other instuctions on line that leave you asking "huh?"
Again, thank you.
Thank you for sharing this!
perfect link, exactly what i needed! tried to install the update by myself, no success, then read the instructions and got it to work!
Thanks,
I went ahead and updated the driver of that mass Storage Device with the unpacked drivers which I downloaded (As suggested above). I then connected BB and all is resolved... USB Controller tab under Device Manager List would show Blackberry Device instead usual Mass Storage Device.
Hope this info will help someone.
Cheers!
The important part is to not let vista search for the driver but manually specify the driver and use the "Have Disk" button.

Rock N Roll!!
from the MS download site it will prompt you to save the download somewhere. Just make a temporary folder on your desktop, you will save a folder called "Research In Motion driver update for BlackBerry Device" inside will be a file called something like X86-ar_zh-tw_cs_da_de_el_en_es_fi_fr_he_hu_it_ja_ko_nl_no_pl_pt-br_ru_sv_tr_zh-cn_pt-13456806_3951c7b8446f3bd279e5f518d94b552dc1f40101.cab, double click that cab file and extract the 3 files back into your temporary folder, you will get RimUsb, rimusbnt and RimUsbNT, RimUsbNT should look like a notepad page with a cog on it, right click this file and select instal. There is no fan fair, but when you plug in the blackberry it will now charge. If you want to be tidy delete the tempory folder and you are done. Cheers
For me, I had to follow kunta75's path to get it to work.
